Join us for an afternoon of gaming and socializing! Meet new people and explore the world of videogames :) Play and chat in a warm and safe atmosphere with other like-minded people from the LGBTIQA+ community in Berlin!

Who are we?

We are a small community of people who love playing videogames :) Our main goal is to work toward a #SaferSpace for all of us queer gamers to play together and meet like-minded people.

What do we do?

We organize monthly events where participants can play, chat and socialize in a relaxed and warm atmosphere. We provide an array of different platforms and gamepads but we encourage everyone to bring their portable equipment and their own controllers.

From time to time we host special events like Videogame Trivia Nights and joint meeting with other like-minded groups.

We also have one or two brainstorming events per year, open to all members, dedicated to shaping the future of our little community. We all contribute together to shaping our group and our events.

Where do we do it?

Our regular events (every 4th saturday of the month at 14:00) are hosted by the Sonntags-Club e. V., a counseling, information and communication center for lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgenders and intersexuals located in Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg. Our events take place in the headquarters of the association, in Greifenhagener Straße 28, 10437 Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg.

Our special events are hosted by the AHA-Berlin e. V., an association that hosts queer youth groups, cultural and cabaret events, parties and workshops. Our events take place in the main headquarters of the association, in Monumentenstraße 13, 10829 Berlin-Schöneberg.

From time to time we have extra events in different locations, such as the Computerspiele Museum or our annual Pride Month event.

Why do we do it?

We like videogames and we want to share our interest with others. Our main goal is to create a safer and welcoming atmosphere where all members of the queer gaming community can enjoy videogames and socialize.

How do we do it?

No space can ever be 100% safe for all people because everyone's requirements to feel safe are different, so what we aim for is a "safer space". A safer space is a place where people can comfortably participate without fear of being harassed or discriminated against because of their sex, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, cultural background, physical or mental ability.

To build the kind of environment we want, guidelines can be useful: ours can be found in the Code of Conduct (all credits to Jaques for putting it together). We ask all participants to read the CoC (see down below) before joining any of the events or meetings.

Our events take place mainly in English, but if English is not your preferred language worry not: most of us also speak German and we will be glad to help make things easier :)

We have a few official organizers but every member of the group is involved in the creation of the event by helping with setup, clean-up, bringing consoles or controllers, organizing tournaments, welcoming new people, etc. Feel free to help out how and when you can!

Code of Conduct

1. #Safer space: We can’t promise a completely safe space, which is why we want to create an atmosphere where you can feel comfortable enough to speak up when there’s conflict. In addition, we ask everyone to be mindful of those around you. The goal is to be a collective awareness team. Of course we (the organisers) are the main contact if there’s an incident and will try to solve them. If it’s desired, we can speak about incidents in the/as a group.
Examples of discrimination: Racist and/or xenophobic remarks, no respect for pronouns, sexist behaviour, classist comments, ableism (discrimination against people with). Discrimination can be expressed in many ways, like in language, through micro-aggressions, willful ignorance.

We must learn from these incidents. Learning is not possible without patience, though. We won’t stand for repeated behaviour.

1.1. Triggers: Be mindful that certain actions and/or topics can be triggering for others, both physically (i.e.: volume, flashing screens) and mentally (i.e.: topics such as death, illness, #). If you need a quiet room, we can provide it to you.

2. Respectful handling of materials: The organisers as well as participants bring consoles and controllers. Be considerate when using the provided materials, and return them at the end of the event. If you are unsure where the materials belong, please ask us.

3. Give everyone an opportunity to play: We understand the excitement of gaming, but please remember to give everyone a chance to play at the consoles.

4. Thoughtfulness: We ask you to be considerate and respectful of your surroundings so that the event can be a comfortable one for all participants. As discussed in talking point 1, our goal for the group is to be mindful of one another and speak up on interpersonal situations/conflicts to solve them.

5. The event is for ages +18. (With the exception of certain events open for all ages. More info on the group’s website.)

6. Limited space: For each event we will accept around 30 people. Our priority will always be to create a safe space for the LGBTQIA+ community. We welcome people who might not belong to the community to learn and educate themselves. If our capacity of 30 is reached and more people part of the community want to join, we ask our allies to be considerate and remember for whom this event is for

7. Respect the associations’ respective code of conducts: We hold our events at Sonntags-Club and AHA, which have their own code of conducts, please respect these. You can find them at the entrance.

We are open and happy for any improvements and additions to our code of conduct!
